Reading is such an important part of our lives. Without literacy children don’t have much of a future, which is why it is so important to support to role of reading and the right to literacy for people across the globe.
To help support the importance of literacy, LitWorld has created World Read Aloud Day.
About World Read Aloud Day:
Every year on the first Wednesday of March, World Read Aloud Day calls global attention to the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories.
This year, Staples has partnered with LitWorld and has asked me to help spread the word about this important campaign by sending us some great books and fun art supplies.
Our goal is to promote literacy through encouraging parents to read out loud to their children (or have their children read out loud themselves), as well as to promote comprehension through either drawing something that represents their understanding of the story or write a response to it and how it made them feel or what it made them think.
I knew this was something my kids would both embrace so I jumped at the chance to support this wonderful cause.
They sent us some fun huge drawing pads, tracing paper, construction paper, glitter and regular markers, colored pencils, and a selection of books for both of my kids.
I started off reading the Miss Nelson books: Miss Nelson is Missing and Miss Nelson is Back and my kids got creative! My niece was over too and so she and my daughter worked together to share their interpretation of the stories.
They worked so hard on their drawings bringing the stories to life from their imaginations.
