Wonders Never Cease by Tim Downs is a novel with a Christian perspective and was published in 2010.
A has-been movie star has an accident and ends up in the hospital in a medically induced coma. A male nurse, with a questionable past, comes up with a scheme to make himself, the movie star’s agent and a struggling book publisher a lot of money.
A little bit of creativity, some medication adjustments and a scripted message for all humankind, and they set out to make the movie star believe she has been chosen by a heavenly visitor to pass that message on, in the form of a best-selling novel.
I admit that it started out a little lighthearted and sort of shallow, but once I had a couple of chapters read, I couldn’t wait to read what would happen next. The characters aren’t overly deep and you don’t get too invested in them, but the story and the twists and turns it takes were enough to keep me riveted.
This was a solid, entertaining story that provided surprises along the way and actually left me pondering some of the mysteries of life. It moved along fairly quickly, and I believe that the sign of a really good book is when it ends spending some time in the bathroom – and Wonders Never Cease certainly did!
I am anxious to check out this author’s past books, and look forward to future books from him as well.
