There is a holiday song that plays on the radio that talks about two children in a family who each only get a single small gift for the holidays. Whenever I hear that song I imagine what is actually inside those tiny packages. It’s certainly not a video game system or a tablet computer. It’s definitely not a hover board or a flat screen TV.
Is it a pair of socks? A trinket that has been in the family for many years? A sweet treat?
Whatever it is, one thing is for sure: to those children, whatever is inside those little boxes will bring those children joy.
I can imagine what it is like for a child who goes without. While their friends are touting their escapades beating the next level on their favorite video game and riding around on scooters, bikes and power wheels, they watch from the sidelines. For some children it’s not about having a NEW toy, it’s about having ANY toy.
There is a local man in my area with a big heart who also can imagine what it is like for a child to go without. Only, he is doing something about it. Cliff Ulman of Crown Point, Indiana fixes up old bikes and gives them to kids in needs. Not only that, he has gone so far as to buy new bikes and give them to kids in need.
Cliff says he is ‘just a guy’ who gives bikes to poor kids. He enjoys bike riding himself he believes that every kid deserves a bike. He has repaired and donated more than 300 bikes this year alone and for the holiday season is doing a 100-bike giveaway to help bless some needy families this year.
You can read more about Cliff and his story over at the Post-Tribune.
There are so many people making wishes come true for others this holiday season and UPS wants to help recognize their amazing and selfless efforts. The UPS #WishesDelivered campaign helps honor people who are helping make wishes come true and changing lives in their communities. For every wish submitted or shared, UPS will donate $1 to one of five different charity partners (up to $150,000)!
