Weird World Wonders

There are so many strange things that have occurred naturally in places across the world that many of us many never get to see.  These places are not often on the typical tourist spots and I’m sure very few people plan vacations simply to visit this weird stuff.

But it does exist, and often looks like something out of a movie.

I think it would be really cool to visit some of these places.

Check out some really weird world wonders:

Mono Lake, California USA

Mono Lake is located in California near the Nevada state line.  It is a shallow basin that has no outlet to the ocean, so the water is very alkaline and saline.  Over the years, the water level has receded and due to the salt content and the lowered water line knarled limestone towers called tufa towers have formed are seen above the water line.

Pamukkale, Turkey

Pamakkale means “cotton castle” in Turkish.  It is a terraced area created by mineral deposits left by hot springs.  It has been a spa retreat for a couple of thousand years.

Devils Tower, Wyoming

Native Americans in the area hold Devils Tower as sacred, and the movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” showed aliens landing there. It rises about 1,267 above the surrounding grade and it is believed to have been formed as the surrounding area eroded away, although no one knows for sure how or why. People frequently climb it.

The Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland

The Giant’s Causeway, according to legend was created by a mythological being, but in reality is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns that are the result of an ancient volcanic eruption.

White Desert, Egypt

The White Desert is located around 30 miles north of Farafa, Egypt and is named for it’s white and cream colors and massive chalk rock formations created by sandstorms.  The formations take on many shapes and sizes and some even appear to resemble common objects.

Split Apple Rock, New Zealand

Split Apple Rock is located in Abel Tasman National Park on New Zealand’s South Island.  Is it a strange, large boulder that rises out of the water in Tasman Bay and appears to have been cut clean in half.
