In November 2011 I told you about my experience shopping for a Sleep Number bed. My husband and I tried out all the models and decided that the Sleep Number i8 bed was the model for us.
In December, right before Christmas, our bed was delivered and before I tell you about how the sleeping experience has been on our new bed, I first want to tell you about delivery and assembly.
A Sleep Number bed is not like a traditional bed. There is no “box spring” and the mattress itself comes into the house in quite a few different pieces.

One thing that didn’t make it into the pictures is the pump. The pump sits under the head of the bed and a tube comes out of each air chamber and connects to it. The pump inflates or deflates the air chambers based upon where you set your Sleep Number using the included remote.
Obviously the install and setup of the Sleep Number beds is a little more time and labor intensive than slapping down the mattress on top of the box spring. The benefit to this type of system is that with everything being modular, if something goes wrong, gets stained, gets ripped, stops performing, it is easier to replace a single part. From my perspective this makes for a much longer life possible for the bed!

I would LOVE to have a Sleep Number bed! We’ve debated buying one for a while now . I would love to wake up without back pain for a week! I bet I would have more energy if I actually slept well at night.

Holy wowness! I had no idea that those beds had all of that… stuff in them! It looks so comfy!
I didn’t either, but it makes perfect sense. Rather than replacing an entire costly mattress, you can just replace the parts you need IF there is a problem years down the road.

It is, I was fascinated watching them, they made it look so easy to put together. I was surprised at how fast it went considering all the parts they had!

The sleep number bed looks really neat! Installation doesn’t look too complex, but I think I’d be glad someone installed it for me! ;)
PS: How do you only sleep with 2-3 pillows?! My husband and I have 7 pillows on our bed! :D
Holy cow, we throw pillow off there after awhile LOL. One per person is plenty.
I want one so bad lol. We so need different types of mattresses so I’m sure this would be perfect. It was interesting to see them put together though I have to say lol.
I was lucky to get one of these from my Mom and although the construction had me slightly confused, Justin helped to assemble it so it was easy. I haven’t slept like this in years and truly love my Sleep Number bed. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. I am not sure my model, but it’s an older model — still a GREAT bed for good nights sleep. Took me a couple weeks to get my number but mine is about a 60.
Wow, my number is a lot lower than 60, it’s really interesting to hear people’s Sleep Number LOL
