Peppa Pig

A few months ago while channel surfing my daughter discovered a TV show for kids called Peppa Pig.

She watched it for about all of 10 seconds and was hooked.

There was something about this little pig and her family that captured her imagination and it had become her show of choice over all her other past favorites.

If Peppa Pig is on, it is her show of choice.

Every. Time.

Let me tell you a little bit about Peppa Pig.

Peppa Pig is a lovable, exuberant little piggy who lives with Mummy, Daddy and her little brother, George. Peppa enjoys playing with her best friend, Suzy Sheep, visiting Granny and Grandpa Pig, and looking after George. Best of all, Peppa loves jumping up and down in muddy puddles, laughing, and making loud snorting noises.

Each Peppa Pig episode which features everyday activities and themes that preschoolers can relate to, such as going to the playground, swimming, riding bikes, visiting grandparents and having play dates. Peppa Pig episodes support preschoolers’ social and emotional development, such as building self-esteem, cooperating, empathizing with others, and identifying and expressing feelings.

Peppa Pig is on every day on Nick Jr.  (Monday-Friday at 12 pm and 12:30 pm and Saturday & Sunday at 2 pm and 2:30 pm)

I can’t exactly explain why Abby connects with the shows as well as she does.  I do know that the characters are cute and they have adorable British accents.  They also make pig snorting sounds and the stories are very easy to relate to but also provide an opportunity to learn new things.  I recall one episode Abby was watching where she came up to me and asked me if she has ‘stabilizers’ on her bike.  I had no idea what she was referring to, so she says “Peppa Pig has training wheels but she calls them stabilizers.”  Most of the stories are simple and illustrate every day situations but in a way that kids can really connect with.  Things that she might not believe me telling her, she understands and believes coming from Peppa Pig.

Peppa Pig is such a cute show and if your preschooler isn’t watching it, I highly recommend you check it out and also make sure to like their Facebook page for all the latest Peppa Pig happenings.

Note: we received a collection of Peppa Pig episodes on DVD and Peppa Pig merchandise in order to help us spread the word about Peppa Pig.
