“No matter who you are, no matter how much protective gear you wear, you’re gonna get the living crap kicked out of you.”
There are 2 things I love in a new TV show.
1. A strong female lead.
2. Men in tight pants.
With the new show premiering on USA on Wednesday June 29th, I get both – and a great storyline. Necessary Roughness is a brand new show from USA and I was lucky enough to watch the pilot already before it premieres.
About the show
Dr. Dani Santino (Callie Thorne) is a Long Island psychotherapist whose personal life unravels when she finds her husband cheating. Diving fully into her work, she takes on the challenge of rehabbing a bad boy professional football player (Mehcad Brooks) whose off-the-field antics threaten his career and the team franchise. Underestimated at every turn, she succeeds beyond expectations and soon finds herself as the most sought-after therapist for high-profile clients. Athletes, entertainers, politicians and others living in the spotlight clamor for her unique brand of tough love therapy during their moments of crisis. Although her career is reenergized, it wreaks havoc on her life as a newly minted single mom of two teenagers. Recognizing her ability to change people’s lives, she’s determined to strike a balance between both worlds.
The series stars Callie Thorne (“Rescue Me,” “Californication”), Marc Blucas (“Knight and Day,” “Buffy, The Vampire Slayer”), Mehcad Brooks (“True Blood,” “Desperate Housewives”) and Scott Cohen (“Law & Order: Trial By Jury,” “Gilmore Girls”).
Necessary Roughness Premieres on Wednesday, June 29th at 10/9c on USA Network and airs weekly after on Wednesdays at 10/9c.
I really enjoyed the pilot. It kept my interest and I really loved the main characters. She’s tough and sarcastic and really strong. I also liked most of the supporting characters as well. I told my husband we needed to DVR the show because I think finally there is a show we will both enjoy watching together. We don’t connect on very many shows, but I have a feeling we will with ‘Necessary Roughness’.
Below is an extended first look at the pilot:
I’m really looking forward to watching how the show unfolds!
