KidSnips makes haircuts fun!

My daughter has had her share of haircuts in her 6 short years. Being blonde with such fine hair made it a necessity as her hair started to get into her eyes.

Then there was that one time that she got a hold of the scissors.

And gave herself a mullet.

That resulted in a hair cut so short she was petrified to ever have her hair cut again.

Which made an interesting conversation recently when we were invited to try out KidSnips, Chicagoland’s premiere family hair salon.

About KidSnips:

kidsnips-logoKidSnips is Chicagoland’s premiere locally owned group of family salons. KidSnips prides itself on offering good, quality haircuts by highly trained professionals. In addition, all nine of our salons offer professional hair products for sale.

We offer the latest trends, stylish haircuts and video games to play. Our stylists are always ready to service kids, teens and even mom and dad. If you’re looking for that really cool toy purchase or a goodie-bag treat we even have that.

Kids love our car-shaped chairs, watching kid’s videos, and playing video games–just a few of our kid-friendly distractions to help them hold still for a great style!

After the haircut, your child will pick out a free treat from our Treasure Chest and also get a free lollipop. You and your child will be eager to return to KidSnips again and again.

Although she was pretty adamant that she did not want her hair cut, I convinced her that it would be a good idea to get a trim so it looked nice. She was ok with that idea and we headed out one Sunday for our appointment.

Most KidSnips locations are open 7 days a week, making it easy for a busy parent to fit family haircuts into their schedule. We visited the Oak Brook location but there are 8 other locations so you are sure to find one near you if you live in the Chicagoland area.

KidSnips Locations:

  • Chicago’s Lincoln Park
  • Downtown Deerfield – Deerfield Village Centre
  • Arlington Heights – Northpoint Center
  • Wilmette – Edens Plaza
  • Wheaton Town Square

As I mentioned, we visited the Oak Brook location on a Sunday. We had made an appointment but walk-ins are welcome and there certainly is plenty to do if there is a wait. I promise your kids won’t get bored looking at all the toys and hair accessories that fill the store.

We had to wait only a few minutes for Keisha, the stylist who was going to cut Abby’s hair. After checking in, the receptionist asked Abby which movie she would like to watch during her haircut. She is her mother’s daughter and picked out The Wizard of Oz.

While we waited she browsed the hair bows and picked out a beautiful pink flower bow for her hair.

At KidSnips, the kids can choose to sit in a cool car-shaped chair or a regular chair. Abby chose the regular chair, which actually surprised me.

She looked nervous, but once her movie started she began to relax.

Keisha was very sweet and kept calling Abby ‘Beautiful’ which made us both smile. We talked about the challenges I have keeping Abby’s hair tangle-free and how difficult it is to comb and she recommended we get a Knot Genie detangling brush. They had them for sale so we picked one up and it has been a life-saver!

She cut about an inch and a half off Abby’s hair and tapered the sides towards the back. It wasn’t a lot of cutting but it was enough to make a huge difference in her style. She added a braid and the flower Abby picked out and it turned out beautiful!

I was really impressed with the care Keisha took with Abby and her skills at making her hair look perfect and adorable and just right for her face.

After the cut, Abby was directed to visit the Treasure Chest where she could pick out a toy and was offered a lollipop and a balloon, which totally made her day.

This was, hands down, the best salon experience I have had with either of my kids. The atmosphere, though appearing chaotic was actually fun and interesting and helped keep Abby from being too nervous about the experience. The stylist, Keisha, who cut Abby’s hair was fantastic. She was sensitive and gentle and really seemed to understand what I was asking for. The added bonus of the Treasure Box, lollipop and balloon had her asking me when she can come back to get her haircut again, which is a far cry from not wanting her hair cut ever again.

If you visit the Oak Brook location, be sure to ask for Keisha!

I LOVE her cut! Wish we could have seen you guys that day. Cadence doesn’t want her hair cut, but I think she needs a trim. We should see about trying this place out! I used to do cute little braids with clippies for Cadence. Now she just wants it down. :(

Her haircut turned out looking great! I wish there was a location near us to make my grandson’s hair cutting experience not so horrific!
