It’s very easy to get caught up with the number on the scale as week as this challenge progresses. For obvious reasons it is the yardstick by which we measure success when trying to get in shape. “Weight loss” is what we aim for because it is a tangible, easily quantified result. But it’s not the only number at work when you are trying to get in shape or lose weight. Have you ever seen a lb of muscle? How about a lb of fat? They sound the same but the reality is that muscle is much more dense than fat and takes up far less room at the same weight.
Which means that when you had a week like I did where you were sick and missed 4 days of exercise yet showing some lower measurements despite gaining weight, it’s nothing to freak out about.

This week I am back in business! I am still fighting this sinus thing but I refuse to let it keep me from working out any longer. It felt so good to workout this morning after 4 days off and I only used 7 tissues during my 50+ minutes of exercise!
This morning my face was still red after my shower! Not being able to breathe through your nose really is a challenge. Let’s just call it a healthy glow.
The Omron pedometer has been a great tool to motivate me and make sure I am getting enough movement in each day. I also really love the badges you can earn in the Omron Fitness dashboard. Totally makes me aspire to get the next one!

I can’t wait to try out the Omron strapless heart rate monitor!

I was sick a bit ago and still went to the gym but I just did some light walking. It was important to me to stay in the habit of going even if I didn’t work that hard as I was just really starting out! Yay for your lost ‘space’!!
Congrats on your progress thus far. I have been working on staying on track for the last 3 weeks and this week I’m just wiped. I too suffer from a terrible sinus infection myself. Hope we both feel better soon.
I need to start working out! You are such an inspiration though. :)
I’m excited to try the strapless monitor too. You are amazing for pushing through that workout with your cold. Last week was a mess but I am going to make up for it this week.
I was sick this past week and I’m fine now two days of misery but I worked out even on those days. I really like that you posted the fat and muscle image, it really put it all into perspective and makes me feel a little easier about the 2 pound gain last week.
You are awesome Kim!
I have not been sick yet…knock on wood!
Love that muscle/fat pic.
My dashboard does not show the correct miles. I wonder why?
You are doing awesome!!! I love that fat vs. muscle visual. More than that, though, seeing the measurements & fat/muscle numbers on the scale change is such a great feeling! Keep up the great work!
You have had some great inch losses! You are so awesome Kim! My biggest inspiration. I want to be you when I grow up.
I always have trouble starting a workout when I’m sick, but feel so happy I did it when I finish. Good on you for keeping going!
