This is my daughter’s best friend, Bunny:
Bunny is well loved (takes a lot of abuse).
She goes everywhere with us.
She gets chewed on. Stepped on. Slept on.
She gets dropped on the ground, run over with the stroller and has food and drink spilled on her.
Bottom line…she is always so GROSS, especially her nose, hands and ears.
I was always afraid to wash Bunny in my washing machine because I was afraid the agitator would kill her. And THAT would be devastating (even though Bunny is actually Bunny2 and Bunny3 is stashed in my closet – just incase..shhhhh). But now I don’t have to worry about that becuase my new Frigidaire Affinity is a front-loader and doesn’t have an agitator.
I mentioned earlier that Bunny gets chewed on right? For some reason my daughter is constantly chewing on Bunny’s ears, hands and nose. And with how much time she spends on the floor as well, I am really concerned about trying to keep bunny as clean and germ-free as possible.
The other day, Bunny was especially dirty. Here’s a close up:
Check out how brown the ears are. Ick.
I needed to clean Bunny, so I started with Dreft Stain Remover Spray and sprayed her all over, then let her sit for the recommended few minutes on the bottle. Then I tossed her into the washing machine, pressed the start button, and turned the knob to the delicate setting. Before I hit start again, it occurred to me that my new machine has a “sanitize” setting. This setting includes cycles up to 153 degrees to ensure your laundry will be 99.9% bacteria free. It takes longer and uses very hot water so I was concerned and weighed my options. Which was better, practically bacteria free or risking Bunny might be damaged in hot water. Considering I have another spare Bunny, I decided that CLEAN was more important.
The sanitize cycle took over an hour, for each machine (wash and dry) but check out the results:
Not only did she come very clean, she smelled SO GOOD and clean. And trust me, I sniffed every part of her. I was so excited that it survived unscathed, I could be confident that it was free from bacteria and that it was CLEAN.
Here are the before and after shots side-by-side:
Nice and safe for Abby to chew on again and for me to repeat in a couple of days….
