When it comes to fitness and working out, I try and incorporate my kids into what I do as much as possible. Sometimes they join me as I follow a workout video, sometimes they join me on a long walk or bike ride, and sometimes we just do calisthenics together. But it’s important that I let them take the lead sometimes in deciding how and where we workout.
One day my daughter decided that we would turn our backyard into a fitness circuit of sorts, she even wanted our two dogs to join us as we got active and had what I call a “funout” – because “workout” just sounds so much like, well…work. And what kid wants anything to do with that? Plus it’s good for us adults to think of fitness as “funness” – something we want to do instead of something we HAVE to do.
My daughter is always emulating me, from the way I say things to the color clothing I happen to be wearing each day, so it came as no surprise when she said she wanted some “funout” gear for herself. Well, it’s not really easy to find quality, affordable fitness clothing for someone her size. She is 7 and very petite and we find it very difficult to find things that fit her.
So we headed out to Sports Authority to see if we could find some matching “funness” gear from the Champion GEAR line, or at least find something that fit her that was similar to the women’s GEAR options.
Champion GEAR is new a line of fitness clothing for the whole family from Champion and is exclusive to Sports Authority. The design of Champion GEAR is inspired by tech-driven performance and offers seamless comfort, compression in all of the right places, advanced moisture-wicking fabric and reflective details so you can workout safely any time of day or night. Champion GEAR has tops and bottoms for every member of the family in a variety of colors and styles.
I was shocked, as we shopped for our Champion GEAR, to find that there were quite a few options available in her size. And oh boy were they cute! There were also a lot of women’s options in both tops and bottoms and I really loved the patterns and styles, although I do wish they had a looser long pant for me because I am not a huge fan of capris nor tight fitting workout clothing, and those were my only options. But, for the sake of our “funness” day, I bought a pair. I did it for my daughter. Because I want her to have the confidence to be herself, and the best way to instill that character trait is to lead by example.
But just know, that it took all of my own courage to have pictures taken of me in tight capris. I still feel like an Oompa Loompa when I wear them, but I kept that to myself.
We love the colors and designs of the Champion GEAR and it really is very comfortable. I love some of the small details such as the back and sides of the shirts, and the small zippered pocket on the back of the pants.
She loves that her Champion GEAR has pink on it.
The fact that it wicks away moisture is super important for making helping us not look and feel like we have been working out. It’s a bonus to not have your workout gear feel sticky.
As part of our “funout” my daughter made up a fun fitness routine we could enjoy doing together. There aren’t a whole lot of rules, because rules aren’t fun. Just some suggestions for activities you can do together. You can do each one as many times as you want, repeat them or even add your own. You can print out the graphic for yourself here: “Backyard Funout“.
We had a lot of fun spending time in the backyard together, running and playing and getting in some “funness.”
Although when it came time to hang around on the jungle gym, I sat out and watched.
But we stayed cool and comfortable with our Champion GEAR from Sports Authority. Because fitness really can be all gain, no pain.
