It seems to have become an American tradition to open a new movie on Christmas day. I imagine families opening gifts in the morning and then heading out to enjoy a good film together in the afternoon. If you have older children it’s probably a good way to keep them engaged with the family and not running off to do their own thing.
One movie that opens in select cities on Christmas Day and everywhere January is the highly anticipated August: Osage County from The Weinstein Company.
AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. Letts’ play made its Broadway debut in December 2007 after premiering at Chicago’s legendary Steppenwolf Theatre earlier that year. It continued with a successful international run.
This movie has an all-star cast and looks fantastic! I love films like this that delve into the dysfunctionalism also known as family. I seriously cannot WAIT to see this movie.
