Many of us will never experience swimming anywhere but a backyard pool or a local lake.
Maybe we swim at the YMCA or community center.
Or at a water park.
But there are some places where you can swim across the globe that defy description.
They are so beautiful, so unique.
Take a look at 6 unique places to swim.
Havasu Falls, Supai, Arizona
Havasu Falls in Arizona is one of the the most photographed waterfalls on the planet. The drop is 120 feet and the turquoise water looks more like a Caribbean retreat than something in Arizona.
Pua’a Ka’a State Wayside, Maui
Pua’a Ka’a State Wayside in Maui Hawaii is no more than a roadside stop where you can swim under a waterfall in the rainforest.
Blues Holes of Andros Island, the Bahamas
Andros Island is the largest island in the Bahamas and has a number of blue holes inland and in the ocean. The blues holes are water-filled cave systems that were once explored by Jacques Cousteau.
Devil’s Punch Bowl, Colorado
Devil’s Punch Bowl in Colorado is a freezing-cold swimming hole with 20 foot drops into emerald, though freezing, water. It’s often used by people as a rite of passage.
Sliding Rock, Brevard, N.C.
Sliding Rock in North Carolina is a 60′ waterfall set on a very gentle slope. Swimmers slide down the rock into a cold 8′ deep pool.
Sistema Sac Actun, Quintana Roo, Mexico
Sistema Sac Actun is the largest underwater cave system in the world. It is one of the most beautiful and decorated caves systems as well and is popular with divers.

I’ve only visited the place in Brevard North Carolina, the only places look really cool
#1 should definitely be Semuc Champey, Guatemala
look after waterfall near luang prabang in laos
Hey Kim, what about bacalar?
its in mexico near chetumal (close to the border with belize) really amazing crystal clear water thanks to the blue cenote
A really interesting place to swim is Lago Atitlan in Guatemala. It is a lake surrounded by volcanos. Parts of the water are heated by lava running underneath the lake. Beautiful place.
There is a swimming hole in Newport , NH, called Pollard’s Mill that has sort of a natural water slide. Pollard’s Mill was always a favorite hangout as a kid. I found a video on You Tube of some young swimmers at PM.

I’d assume the Maldives aren’t on the list because the author hasn’t been there. The title isn’t claiming that these are the 6 “best” places to swim on the planet, only that they are sharing six unique places to swim.
Why isn’t Maldives on this list?
Across the globe? Four out of six of these are in the United States and they aren’t even interesting. The remaining two are in North America. Jesus, Americans piss me off because the world starts and ends at their borders. This is a classic example of ignorance and why the entire nation either needs to be re-educated or just destroyed. At this point in time, the only option that I would endorse would be the latter. Your country no longer has any contributions to humanity as a whole other than mass stupidity and obesity.
I hate how people from other countries hypocritically badmouth the United States as if their own Nations were free of problems. I now live in Spain where the unemployment rate is above 20 percent and the government is about to cut teacher’s salaries up to 30% (we’ll see how far the world extends in the eyes of these students with no one to teach them). Nevertheless, it is a very enjoyable place to live and the general population is educated and friendly. If you opened your mind a bit and actually went to the U.S. you would probably realize much of the same.
I dare you to ignore even just the technological contributions that the U.S. has made in recent times. It’s likely you are typing your complaints on a Dell or HP (both American companies), or that you will check this response from your iPhone!
Also, I am not sure how one goes about contributing “mass stupidity” or how you could even quantify stupidity, but I don’t think it constitutes destroying an entire nation of people. Resolving a conflict by physical means without trying to understand the situation is something only “ignorant” people do.
These places all look so amazing and gorgeous. I wish I was a more confident swimmer because then I would be motivated to try and go to all of these! I especially love the color of the water in the Bahamas. It is so mesmerizing and clear- practically unbelievable. The Sliding Rock in North Carolina looks really fun though! Does it hurt at all to slide over the rocks, or have they been worn pretty smooth over time?
Katie- it is actually super smooth and SO much fun. They have lifeguards during peak times for safety, and it is fairly shallow, so even a non-confident swimmer should definitely check it out! I grew up close by and have many fond memories of it along with the other numerous waterfalls and swimming holes in the area.
Little River Canyon in NE Alabama has a beautiful waterfall and huge swimming hole at the bottom.
