We all have it.
No matter who you are, no matter what you do, no matter how much money you do or do not make, you experience stress.
For some, it’s the seemingly mundane things that cause stress. Sick kids, misbehaving dogs, utility bills, car payments, broken appliances, etc. For others, it’s meeting deadlines, unhappy clients, rising health insurance costs and how to keep from firing people.
It doesn’t matter what the stressor is, we all react in much the same way.
- Poor food choices
- Susceptibility to illness
- Destructive habits such as smoking or alcohol
Stress is a part of life, why not fuel it into something positive?
5 Techniques to Transform Stress into Something Positive
1. Get moving
Exercise increases endorphins, which are the things in your brain that make you feel good. You may not be overly excited to get started, but any kind of exercise will help boost your mood, increase your self-confidence and relax you. So just get moving!
2. Sit on the floor and play with your kids or your pet
Setting aside responsibility, even for 10 minutes will help you refocus your priorities. When you play with your kids and focus 100% of your energy on them you can’t help but remember how to enjoy the simple things in life. The same holds true for pets. Their unconditional love and simple desire for affection can lift your spirits and reduce anxiety.
I find that the easiest way to find something to laugh at is to challenge my kids to make me laugh. I offer a small prize to the first one of them who can do something or say something that makes me laugh. It works every time. I find myself giggling over what they did for the rest of the day. Other ways to laugh is to watch a movie or head on over to Pinterest and type “humor” into the search bar. Laughter is similar to exercise in the way it can boost your mood. It sends more oxygen to your entire body and may even burn calories.
4. Get some vitamin D
The sun has amazing powers to improve your mood. It’s kind of like it gives you super powers! The sun boosts your serotonin levels which helps improve your mood. Just 10-15 minutes of sun exposure will give you a better outlook and help you sleep better, both of which make it easier to channel stress into something positive.
5. Use natural remedies
Instead of turning to unhealthy food, cigarettes or alcohol, choose more natural alternatives that can offer relief without damaging your body. Herbal teas, essential oils, or natural stress relief products from RESCUE.
